Space affects iron levels in astronauts’ bodies, and a team of students from the Midland region of Texas wants to know if studying iron levels of fruit flies in space can unlock some answers about bone health in astronauts. “Project Bones” joined two other investigations from student-led teams launching to the International Space Station (ISS) on SpaceX’s 30th Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) mission, contracted by NASA, in March.

The history of women’s contributions to the space industry is significantly shorter than it is for men, simply because women were dealt a delayed start in the race. For example, NASA’s astronaut program began in 1959, but it wasn’t until 1978 when the agency’s lineup of astronaut candidates finally included women.

SpaceX’s 30th Commercial Resupply Services mission (CRS-30), contracted by NASA, is scheduled to take off from Cape Canaveral in Florida on March 21, 2024, delivering over 40 research payloads to the ISS that span a variety of scientific disciplines. Innovative experiments included in the payload aim to advance technology in areas such as Earth observation, radiation protection, healthcare, and spaceflight biochemistry.

DETROIT – The winning team of Higher Orbits’ Go For Launch! Michigan Aerospace Manufacturing Association (MAMA) series of events is gearing up to launch their student research experiment to the International Space Station on mission SpaceX-30 in mid-March.
The student team, Team Space Shell 6, created the winning experiment of the Go For Launch! MAMA series in 2022 and will have their design created by partnered payload integration specialists Space Tango to be launched to space inside the SpaceX Dragon capsule.

Mar. 7—MIDLAND — The Go For Launch student team from Midland High School is anxiously awaiting the launch of their experiment into space, set for later this month.
MHS seniors Alyssa Urbina, Catalina Rodriguez, and Ulisses Hernandez made the experiment during the Go For Launch program in the fall of 2022. Their experiment was selected to be launched into space on the SpaceX-30 and be tested at the International Space Station.
