HIGHER ORBITS BRINGS GO FOR LAUNCH! TO THE HAMPTONS

Nonprofit Brings Astronaut to The Hamptons & Uses Space Exploration to Foster Student Engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

May 17, 2016Leesburg, Va.—Higher Orbits today announced that it will host its first East Coast Go For Launch! program at LTV Studios in East Hampton, NY July 28-30, 2016. Students in the Hamptons will have the opportunity to participate in the three-day program that that uses space exploration as a platform to launch student engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), STEAM (Art); teamwork; communication; and leadership.

Through their participation in Go For Launch! students learn about human spaceflight and get insight and feedback through a variety of talks delivered by experienced space and STEM professionals. Speakers scheduled to participate in this event include retired Astronaut Jerry Ross, former ISS Flight Controller and Astronaut Instructor Michelle Lucas and others. The goal is to illustrate the numerous opportunities that exist in STEM-related careers.

“I am excited to be at the LTV Studios in July and to be part of the unique and educational Go For Launch! program. I enjoy telling the participants what it was like to fly in space and especially what it was like to perform spacewalks. Michelle Lucas and her Higher Orbits organization always provide challenging and motivating STEM experiences for the students,” says Retired Astronaut Jerry Ross. “Opportunities like this are just what young future scientists and engineers need to motivate them to pursue their dreams. And I am pleased to again be part of Michelle’s team and to help encourage young people to pursue their goals!”

The students will participate in collaborative activities and develop the idea for a space experiment, which they will present to a panel of judges (including an astronaut). The judges will choose a winner at each Go For Launch! event. Winners from each event in the division will compete for the divisional title and those winners will have their experiments launched into space.

“As someone who grew up in love with space travel but without many options to have interactions where I could learn more,” said Michelle Lucas, Founder of Higher Orbits, “I’m excited to be able to bring the Go For Launch! program right to students in their hometown areas. Space inspires and I can’t wait to share that message with the students in the Hamptons.”

Go For Launch! will run July 28-30, 2016 for students ages 13-17 and will be held at LTV Studios – 75 Industrial Rd; Wainscot (East Hampton), NY. Registration for students is $250 and includes all supplies and meals. To register, or for more information, please visit www.GoForLaunch.space

“As a full-time local resident and business owner, I’m thrilled to hear that Higher Orbits will be hosting a Go For Launch! program this summer in The Hamptons,” says Annie Balliro, President & CEO uniphigood, LLC. This program will provide an incredible opportunity for our youth to get an “out of this world” experience, related to Space and STEM education, and as we have seen here in the past, meeting and learning from a real-life Astronaut is always inspiring and lots of fun!

Go For Launch! Hamptons is made possible in part by sponsors uniphi good, uniphi space agency and LTV Studios. Higher Orbits is supported by Intergalactic Sponsors: Space Tango, Kentucky Space, and eddi who help make all Go For Launch! events possible. Sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels for individual events, divisions, or the overall program.
