Higher Orbits Galactic HQ – Feb. 16, 2023 – The Higher Orbits team and featured retired NASA Astronaut Wendy Lawrence will be kicking off the Midland 2023 Series in February thanks to continued support from Midland Development Corporation and Midland’s Independent School District.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity again for students to participate in the second year of Midland Go For Launch! programs brought to us by Higher Orbits. Thanks to the support of the Midland Development Corporation and Chevron, we are able to provide a world class, once in a lifetime opportunity for students to learn and work together with Ms. Michelle Lucas and her staff, including the astronauts that bring their unique experience alive for our students,” said Jeff Horner, Executive Director-Career and Technical Education of Midland Independent School District.

This event marks the fourth Go For Launch! Midland program within the Midland Independent School District.

“Space Inspires! Higher Orbits is grateful for the out of this world support from Midland Development Corporation and Midland ISD that allows us to make our Go For Launch! programs possible for students in their community. We had a blast throughout the first Midland Series and are looking forward to working with even more stellar students,” said Michelle Lucas, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Higher Orbits.

The hands-on flagship program of Higher Orbits spotlights the wonders of spaceflight and space exploration to provide students across the country the opportunity to develop and strengthen their skills in STEM, teamwork, communication, research design, and leadership. While focusing on spaceflight, Go For Launch! students work alongside a featured astronaut at each event to learn and develop important skills that can be applied in any professional field.

Open to students in grades 8 through 12, Go For Launch! Midland will be held March 2-3, 2023, at Goddard Junior High School. Interested students can register online at: https://higherorbits.org/go-for-launch/

This event is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Midland Development Corporation, Midland Independent School District, and Chevron.
