Rachel Shares About Her Higher Orbits Experience

Hi, my name is Rachel Blevins and I am from Ashland Ky. My team and I won the Go For Launch! 2019 series. My involvement in Higher Orbits provided me with hands-on experience, exposed me to professionals in the aerospace industry, including a former astronaut, and gave me a chance to participate in space related projects.

In 2021, I had the opportunity to fly to Florida and witness our project launch to the International space station from the Kennedy Space Center. I had never seen a launch before, so this was definitely an incredible experience for me. One of my teammates and I were also given the opportunity to present our project to the public at the Kennedy Space Center. I met so many people that share my passion for Space and STEM. Michelle has been one of the best mentors I could ask for. She not only expanded my knowledge regarding the Space program, she also influenced my career aspirations as well.  She taught me that I don't have to strive to be an “astronaut” to be a part of the community. Combining my interest for Space and medicine, I plan to major in biotechnology and minor in physics, in a pre professional medicine program at the University of Kentucky.

Currently I plan to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama for the third time, and couldn't be more thrilled to attend this camp. Without my participation in Go for Launch, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to fully develop my passion for aerospace and STEM. I am very excited to share my amazing experience with the rest of the aerospace community at the ascend conference. I am so grateful for Michelle and Higher Orbits for giving me this unique opportunity that I will never forget!
