Maisy’s Thoughts Before AIAA ASCEND 2025

My final year at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University flew by, filled with milestone after milestone. By the time I had a moment to slow down, I realized that I had graduated. In that moment, I knew, while uncertain of where the future would lead, I was ready and excited for the next adventure in my professional journey. So when Michelle reached out to ask if I’d like to attend ASCEND 2025, I already knew my answer. I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to participate in this conference and to share my insights shaped by both my academic and professional experiences.

This opportunity feels especially meaningful because of how my journey began. I first participated in Go For Launch! Arizona in 2018 as a high school sophomore. I was instantly captivated by the chance to explore my passion for engineering and space while collaborating with other like-minded students. That first event sparked something in me as I continued to participate over the next two years. Without those early experiences, I may have never discovered Embry Riddle, and I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today.

At Embry Riddle, I cultivated my passion for space and propulsion systems by pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in propulsion, along with minors in Mathematics and Aviation Safety. During my time there, I had the incredible opportunity to intern twice with Northrop Grumman as a propulsion engineering intern. These internships allowed me to apply what I had learned in the classroom to real-world situations through hands-on projects and experiences. They were truly invaluable and I was fortunate to be a part of teams that taught me so much about the aerospace industry.

These past few years have been transformative, and I am so excited to bring the same energy and perspective to ASCEND 2025. I am especially looking forward to connecting with fellow professionals, students, and industry leaders who share a passion for advancing space exploration and innovation. In addition to networking opportunities, I’m also excited to attend the various talks and visit exhibitors, where I can gain new insights from industry experts and build meaningful relationships.

I am deeply grateful to Higher Orbits and the Go For Launch! Program and especially to Michelle for this incredible opportunity!
