Jenni Ginsburg: Why I Support Higher Orbits

As Higher Orbits approaches the 10th anniversary of Go For Launch!, I find myself reflecting not only on the organization’s remarkable growth, but also on the broader moment we are living in. The United States is entering a new era of space exploration. An era that is defined by the Artemis program, commercial partnerships, and a renewed national commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

This momentum is exciting, but it also comes with responsibility. The next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers is sitting in today’s classrooms. Ensuring they are prepared -and inspired - is essential.

I know firsthand how transformative it can be when a young person sees themselves reflected in STEM. I also know how powerful it is when someone takes the time to answer a question, encourage a spark of curiosity, or simply say, “You belong here.” Those moments shaped my path.

Higher Orbits is built on a simple but profound belief: space is an unparalleled catalyst for inspiration. Through hands-on, team-based STEM experiences, the organization empowers students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and solve real-world problems.

Over the past decade, Go For Launch! has grown into a nationally recognized program with nearly 100 events, thousands of alumni, and more than two dozen student-designed experiments flown to the International Space Station. These are not hypothetical exercises. They are authentic opportunities for students to see their ideas come to life.

When students begin to see STEM not as an abstract concept but as a field filled with real people solving real problems, their confidence grows. They begin to see themselves as contributors, innovators, and leaders. That shift is powerful, and it is exactly what Higher Orbits exists to spark.

We’re preparing to return humans to the Moon and build the foundation for future missions to Mars. These efforts will require a workforce that is not only technically skilled, but also creative, resilient, and collaborative.

Programs like Go For Launch! help build that workforce long before students choose a college major or career path. They introduce young people to the challenges and opportunities of space, encourage them to ask big questions, and show them that they have a place in shaping the future.

The next decade of exploration will demand bold thinkers and diverse perspectives. By supporting Higher Orbits, we are helping ensure that students across the country have the opportunity to discover their potential, build confidence, and pursue futures they may never have imagined.

I support Higher Orbits because I believe in the transformative power of STEM. I believe in the importance of mentorship and access. And I believe that when we inspire students to reach for the stars, they often go farther than any of us could have predicted.
