One of my favorite moments during Go for Launch! Was meeting Astronaut Don Thomas. Don Thomas encouraged all of the students throughout the camp to put your best effort into the activities and to reach for the stars. Meeting and talking to him was truly an honor.
During the camp he presented a slideshow to us describing his experience in space. One of the things he mentioned was for his pre-launch lunch instead of a typical sandwich he requested a pepperoni pizza. I thought that that was very interesting!
Don Thomas’s story about his journey to space was very inspiring and although this camp was almost three years ago, some of my favorite memories of the camp were with Don Thomas such as getting pictures with him and listening to his insights on projects.
Another inspiring astronaut that I’ve met is Wendy Lawrence. I met Wendy at our pre-launch dinner in Florida. It was really fun talking with her and sharing about our experiment that was launching to the ISS the next day!
After the launch my mom and I went to visit the Kennedy Space Center and we recognized Wendy and Don throughout the museums. It was such an amazing feeling getting to experience the Space Center and seeing the astronauts that I have met being recognized in the exhibits.
I will forever cherish the knowledge and wisdom I have learned from these wonderful people. Wishing you all a stellar Astronaut Day!
