Michelle first contacted me about attending ASCEND, I felt both excited and honored to have been given such an incredible opportunity to advance my professional career. As this was my first conference, I was admittedly a bit nervous and unsure of what to expect. Little did I know, those three days would be filled with astronauts saying hello from the ISS, hearing from the thunderbirds, engaging technical presentations, dynamic exhibits, and networking centered around emerging innovations in the aerospace industry. Not only was it a valuable chance to connect with professionals in the aerospace community, but it was also an immense privilege to share my own journey, how I got to where I am today, and offer insights along the way.
One of my favorite technical presentations focused on the steady plateau in engine-related accidents despite significant advancements in aerospace technology. This topic resonated deeply with me because it bridged my major, mechanical engineering with an emphasis in propulsion, and my newfound passion and minor in aviation safety. I was fascinated to see the correlation between these two fields, even in the face of technological progress, and I am eager to see how this research might influence future innovations.
I am especially grateful for the opportunity to meet and connect with my fellow Higher Orbits panelists. It was inspiring to witness the unique passions and perspectives each person brought to the discussion. This experience has truly been one in a million, and the people I met along the way only reinforced that feeling. I would like to thank Michelle and Higher Orbits, the ASCEND organizers, and everyone who made this possible for creating such an extraordinary and informative event. I leave this experience energized, inspired, and even more determined to contribute to the future of aerospace.
