Raz’s International Science School Experience

This trip to Australia was probably one of the best experiences of my life. We did so much, and Michelle kept us on point. I remember that towards the beginning of the trip we already wanted to thank Michelle, so we went to the Lego store and created a Michelle mini figure.

We also did a lot of really cool science stuff. I got to do things ranging from measuring the width of a dog hair using lasers, to turning glass fully invisible, to building model airplanes out of Balsawood. Sidenote mine flew the furthest. We did more than just science stuff in those weeks. For instance, one weekend the American group and I went to see Cats and it was a very strange yet entertaining.

We also had the opportunity to go out on our own, so a couple of friends and I went to the arcade and ended up with 500g of mayonnaise and a neck injury which was immensely funny. While on a field trip to a lake I started a brain teaser called my train go’s which made pretty much everyone in my group go insane. I specifically remember it took one of my friends three days to figure it out.

I gotta say my favorite part of the whole trip though was definitely talking to Donna Strickland winner of the 2018 Nobel prize of physics for her work in lasers. I was chosen to give her the official Quantity to Quasar’s book at the end of her lecture, and that was probably the coolest experience of the whole trip. I would like to thank Michelle, Yuki, Evelyn, Abigail, Raine, the amazing ISS staff and all of the friends that I made in Australia for the greatest 2 1/2 weeks of my life.
