Higher Orbits

My Space at Home Experience by Ryker

I first found out about Higher Orbits when my robotics teacher at school nominated me to participate. At the time I had no idea what to expect. I received a kit full of supplies for projects and space related items such as, a signed photo from an astronaut, stickers, and really cool patches.

I was really excited to see what projects I was going to make with these different supplies, through the upcoming virtual classes.

One of my favorite projects was when we built a Scribble Bot. Markers, rubber bands, popsicle sticks, and a motor were included in the kit. I provided a plastic cup and glue. We made a motorized robot that wobbles around and draws on paper.

A highlight of being part of Higher Orbits at home, was the webinars with the astronauts. We got to listen to presentations, interact, and ask questions with former NASA astronauts.

I want to be an aerospace engineer for my future career and being part of the Higher Orbits program helped me learn more about space and technology that I will use in the future. Higher Orbits is a great educational program and I’m happy to be part of it.
