Higher Orbits

Evelyn Selected for 2025 International Science School

Hello my name is Evelyn Weber and I am a Junior at Sault Area High School in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. My experience through Higher Orbits has been out of this world so far.  I attended the Go For Launch! camp in the summer of 2022.

I really enjoyed meeting Astronaut Don Thomas and listening to his presentation about his experiences in space really helped open my eyes to what life is like as an astronaut. We did a lot of team building exercises which helped a lot when we were designing our experiment to go to space! This camp was so much fun and I enjoyed getting to know my teammates better.

My team, Space Shell Six, moved on to compete against the rest of Michigan and after that we were invited to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to watch our rocket launch! The trip down to Florida was a lot of fun and we got to meet other teams from across America! Higher Orbits has expanded my horizons in the science field such as the different occupations related to space. I am forever grateful for the opportunities that have come my way through Higher Orbits including the International School of Science.

When I saw the email about applying for the International School of Science I wanted to apply but I was not expecting to get in because I knew that it was really competitive. The application process was very insightful as applying to colleges is just around the corner. It was fun connecting with people to write recommendation letters and I’m so glad I applied for this opportunity.

The day of the Facebook live I was very excited and nervous for the results and I still can’t believe I get to go to Australia! I am looking forward to sightseeing in Sydney, meeting my teammates, living on the University of Sydney’s campus for two weeks and talking to and working with new people from all over the world!

I am so grateful for this opportunity to attend the International School of Science and I am so excited for the new adventures to come!
